Polemics, politics, and photography.: Did liberal magazine Mother Jones just published an article touting the scientific benefits of drone warfare? →

Um, I think so. Above is the screenshot of their Twitter posting and click here to read the story.
To be fair, this posting first appeared on the Scientific American website. However, the purpose of this being published on Mother Jones is abundantly clear: it serves to puts a positive spin on President Barack Obama’s murderous drone warfare and its expansion domestically.
Context matters here. Whereas Scientific American is a science news website where an article about drones being used to collect scientific data about endangered animals in third-world countries is in good company with other articles about efforts to save endangered species, this same article in Mother Jones is hanging out with articles defending drone warfare and assassination of Americans.
The only conclusion then is that Mother Jones is somehow attempting to put a positive spin on the negative effe—no, scratch that—a positive spin on the hundreds of kids killed by Obama’s death drones. Why fret and worry whether Obama is the lesser evil when there are cute orangutans being saved by drones! When you put killing children in that context, I guess it is not so bad after all?
The post is about how conservationists use drones (the type of airplane) to spot endangered wildlife in areas where it’s hard for people to get to. For a story on our site about drone warfare, see this story, sub-headlined, “Why the rise of drone warfare will mean more dead civilians.” Or alternatively, “Our Bipartisan Antipathy Toward Civilian Drone Deaths.”
Because not all drones are for killing. For that matter, google “drone photography”.

I don’t think you actually read the article. They’re not defending drone warfare. It explains how the planes (unarmed) help conservationists.

There is a difference between drones (which just means unmanned airplanes) and drones equipped with missles, which ARE used for war. Research

Why is the story being published in Mother Jones suddenly making it not about conservation and instead a front for the “liberal conspiracy”?

These remote-controlled light plane (drones) have nothing to do w/ drone warfare any more than say Hubble has to do with military satellites.
